How many kids are vegetarian?

Of particular interest for children would be our Leprechaun Cake and Other Tales, A Vegetarian Story-Cookbook, by Vonnie Winslow Crist and Debra Wasserman. Here's a recipe from the book:
Fourth of July Garbanzo Bean Burgers
(Makes 6 burgers)
2 cups pre-cooked or canned (two 19-ounce cans) garbanzo beans (chickpeas), drained and mashed
1 stalk celery, finely chopped
1 carrot, finely chopped
1/4 cup small onion, peeled and finely chopped
1/4 cup whole wheat flour
salt and pepper to taste
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1) Mix all ingredients except for cooking oil in a bowl.
2) Form 6 flat patties. Fry in oiled pan over medium-high heat until burgers are golden brown. Turn burgers over and fry on the other side until done.
3) Serve alone or with tomato sauce, ketchup, or barbecue sauce.

Become a VRG Intern

VRG has intern openings. The job depends on your background, major, and interests. Tasks may include research, writing, and/or community outreach.
Journalism, English, Nutrition, and Business majors can gain valuable experience. Activists can learn new skills and knowledge, and share your expertise. Positions are open throughout the year for all ages. VRG internships are unpaid.

Vegetarian Slide Presentation

The VRG now has a slide show for rent or sale called "Vegetarianism - A Lifestyle You Can Live With." Jim Dunn, one of our volunteers extraordinaire, created the slides and text. This presentation covers the many benefits of vegetarianism for health, the environment, and the animals. If you would like to give a talk about vegetarianism at your school, local library, or office, this slide show is a great way to introduce the topic. There are 34 slides and a ten-page speakers guide. The presentation is about an hour in length, but that depends upon the speaker and topics covered. You can rent the slides for $20 for one month plus a $130 deposit. If you would like to purchase the presentation, the cost is $150.
