Documentary Iyarkayin Mooligai -Traditional Herbal Medicine Of The Narikurava

Iyarkayin Mooligai -Traditional Herbal Medicine Of The Narikurava
Herbal medicine has been practiced for centuries in many parts of the world to treat a wide variety of disease and health conditions. Although it is considered alternative in traditional medicine circles, herbal medicine or herbology has a long established history and tradition. Herbalists make use of all parts of plants including the leaves, stems, flowers and roots. The herbal remedies can come in the form of teas, tinctures, capsules, tablets and other forms.
The Narikurava tribe of Tamilnadu have been using such herbal remedies for hundreds of years, for several types of body aches, pains and illnesses. Besides that, they use the plant parts and products to meet their life's social and cultural requirements. Plants and herbs have therefore been an integral part of the life and culture of the Narikuravas.
This documentary titled "Iyarkayin Mooligai" meaning 'Herbs from the Nature' has been made by NFSC to give the outside world a peek into the lives of traditional herbal medicine practitioners from the Narikurava tribe of Tamilnadu. Advances in modern medicine, changing times and the wrath of nature have been detrimental for the decline of herbal medicine. In spite of all the odds, the Narikurava people continue to have the same passion they had more than 13 generations ago.
